When choosing a caterer look for one who will help you make practical choices based on their professional experience, your budget constraints, number of guests and what type of food and alcohol you would like.  Your choice of reception venue will determine whether you hire an out-caterer or use the in-house services.  Your caterer should be open to your suggestions. Check what is included in the price e.g. table cloths, napkins, candles, and setup labour.  Do a tasting of the food to ensure the flavour and quality is of the highest standard.  Make sure the staff and service standards meet your expectations.

Things to consider when meeting with the caterer:

• Have they worked at the prospective reception site before?
• What is the policy for payment?
• How much time do they need to set up?
• How much are their overtime and cancellation costs?
• Will you feed the photographer and musicians?
• When must you provide a final guest count?
• Consider the cost and variety of drinks available
